Colour measurement of Grains
The raw material cereals, i.e. grains from cultivated grasses such as wheat, rye, oats, barley, millet, maize, rice, etc., are subjected to visual quality tests, as are products made from these raw materials, such as muesli bars and animal feed.
All cereals and grains, such as wholemeal, spelt, green spelt and seeds such as amaranth or quinoa are important nutritional bases and should therefore be given special consideration.
Whether grain is processed directly at mills or resold as animal feed, consistent color is a key component of quality assurance and can be easily determined. HunterLab colour measurement devices are specifically designed for measuring grains and cereals. Using various sample plates and cuvettes, the colour of both large and small quantities of product can be determined.

Application example:
Precise colour measurement of rolled oats using statistical averaging on the Agera L2 colour measurement device is particularly useful for rolled oats, as they are among the samples that consist of various particles and have uneven colour distribution or surface texture. In any case, the samples should be measured at least two to five times, with rotation or refilling between measurements, so that a meaningful mean value can be formed.
