Gloss affects the perception of a sample’s color. Two objects with the same color can have different surfaces, such as matte/glossy or textured/smooth. To the human eye, they appear different, even though a color measuring device outputs the same values for the color definition. If the goal is to measure the sample as the eye perceives it, the 45/0 geometry is used. If the aim is to ignore gloss differences, measurements are taken with d/8 geometry with a closed gloss trap.
